Summary:

We’re excited that plans have been approved for reserved matters approval of the Birmingham City Hospital urban regeneration. The project will see the regeneration of the former Victorian wings of the City Hospital site into an exciting urban village. The design responds to the retained ‘infirmary’ block of the historic hospital and creates a unified character through the site inspired by the existing buildings’ tradition of elegant vertical emphasis, characterful red brick and painted window reveals.

The project will ultimately deliver around 750 homes, including new-build and refurbishment apartments, affordable housing and a substantial ‘Build-to-Rent’ complex. Our architecture and landscape teams worked closely together to conceive ‘Homestead’ style urban blocks that include family housing set around shared landscaped gardens.

The project will open-up the south bank of the existing canal, and reinforce its role as an ecology corridor whilst engaging the waterscape of the canal with a residential living environment.
