Summary:

Town Lane, Kew is an award-winning regeneration scheme in Southport, creating a sustainable, mixed-use community centred around a new urban core. The development was recognised as the North West Regional Winner for Large Residential Development at the LABC Building Excellence Awards.

IDP originally developed the £180 million masterplan for Barratt David Wilson Homes following a competition-winning design, establishing the vision for the wider development. The masterplan was designed to create a connected community of around 850 new homes, alongside a range of facilities and employment opportunities serving both new and existing residents.

The development brings together a diverse mix of uses, including a new leisure and community centre with café and restaurant facilities, a 90-apartment retirement and extra care community, and approximately 300,000 sq ft of business and leisure space.

A key principle of the masterplan is the relationship between these different uses. New connections, shared facilities and a carefully considered network of streets and spaces create opportunities for greater interaction between residential, community, leisure and employment areas.

Rather than creating a collection of individual buildings, the masterplan establishes a cohesive and active place with a strong sense of identity. The integration of different uses, alongside sustainable principles and accessible connections, creates a community designed to support a range of lifestyles and encourage activity throughout the development.

Town Lane represents a flagship example of design-led, plan-led placemaking, demonstrating how a comprehensive masterplan can establish the framework for a sustainable and connected new community.
