Summary:

IDP were commissioned by Barratt Homes to provide the architecture and landscape design for their successful bid to the develop the site at Chapel Hill. The development brief focused on a landscape-led design that required significant multi-functional green space and provision of a central park for recreation and sport, as well as a LEAP.

The landscape strategy followed a clear street hierarchy which included tree boulevards and vistas that terminated at an existing listed building located centrally within the site. Play was integral to the design, incorporating formal trim trails and outdoor gym as well as other landscape elements that formed nature features for play.

Central Park was designed with the steep gradient in mind, forming a series of seating terraces and wildflower meadows to cascade through the space, culminating at the Georgian style listed building in the centre of the site. This project is due for completion in 2019.
