We worked alongside the local authority to develop a detailed design brief to create a state of the art, sustainable primary school, which could act as a hub within the heart of this new community’s development, on the edge of Wokingham.

Alongside the landscape architects and our own urban designers we have created a school site that links and harmonises with the adjacent public realm and habitat surrounding the site, with the buildings scale and massing sitting comfortably in the overall development.

The design and layout of the new school encompassed the core briefing requirements developed at the outset– we created a modern teaching and learning environment , with opportunities for community interaction and usage.

We designed flexible teaching spaces zoned around whole school facilities and a central learning street at the core of the layout. The double height street connects the whole school, giving connectivity and a family fee. It enables a sustainable natural ventilation and lighting strategy throughout the school. Views out to the open countryside and play spaces from all spaces enhance wayfinding and the sense of space internally, these views provide users with a calmness through connectivity to the natural environment.

The simple but well composed scale, massing and material palette of the building gives a distinctive yet subtle appearance to the building which suits surrounding environment.

Other building features ensured optimal functionality including: hall spaces, full cook kitchens, community changing rooms, floodlit 3G pitches, break out spaces, creative arts zones, alongside ample parking, pupil drop off points and age appropriate external learning and play areas

Our locally acclaimed scheme, was widely recognised to have surpassed its brief whilst being a high quality yet cost-efficient school. Its ability to meet education and community needs has ensured it is highly regarded by those who use it.

Our mission was to create a place that worked in every way for the users, to achieve a complete teaching and learning environment, which allowed flexibility to adapt to changing pedagogies in the future. We are proud to say that we have delivered.
