Gloucester Quays, Gloucester
McCarthy & Stone
A contemporary design response was chosen to develop this stunning site set in the heart of Gloucester Quays and immediately alongside the Llantony Secunda Priory (a grade one listed site). However, our Architecture team were also focused on creating a strong reference to the industrial warehouse precedents seen nearby along the Quayside. IDP led the design and planning consent for this key regeneration site.
As the large site was developed to accommodate 85 Assisted Living and Retirement Living developments, a core design consideration was without doubt maximising the waterfront views; allowing residents to benefit from the light and beauty of their surroundings and enhance their wellbeing.
High levels of glazing throughout optimised natural lighting to the apartments, many also benefiting from private outdoor amenity space in the form of industrially styled terraces and far reaching views. A contemporary material palette was employed in the design response, utilising standing seam metal roofing, contemporary cladding choices and metal windows, all in order to seamlessly reference the local Quayside context. Following planning consent the scheme is due to be fully operational in early 2020.
